She got the Award, but her Earrings got all the Headlines!

One of Hollywood’s hottest stars – this celebrity showed off her “Jewelry Passionista” style.

Natalie Portman earned the best-actress award for “Black Swan,” at the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards (SAG) on Sunday, for her role as a ballerina losing her grip on reality. But her choice of jewelry to wear to the Los Angeles event assured she had a grip on publicity!

Stepping out on the red carpet, even her glimmering white Azzaro gown was upstaged by her $2 million Tiffany & Co. jewels. She wore 28 carats of pear-shaped yellow diamonds and round brilliant white diamonds set in platinum and 18 karat gold.

With her hair swept back, and all 28 carats in full display, they sparkled along with the reporters flashbulbs.

At an event were normally the gown designers get all the attention, jewelry took a major focus this year.

Credible, Influential, Engaging, Open, & Passionate

…to name but a few descriptors…

I decided to check the mainstream dictionaries to find out the definition of “Passionista.” Merriam-Webster dictionary directs you to the word “Passionist”, which is the English translation of the Italian word “Passionista.” First used in 1832, it is derived from the Latin word “passion (passio),” and referred to a Roman Catholic order devoted to missionary work and retreats.

The Urban Dictionary also has a definition, although it is more political based: A fervent activist – someone who gets very animated and active over popular political causes.

So what does that mean to a Jewelry Passionista? Although neither religious nor politically motivated, a lot of those keywords do apply. For instance, we are devoted to jewelry, and do get animated in discussions about it (especially expressing our love for it!) and are active in searching it out everywhere. We are passionate about it!

As consumers, Passionistas have some important attributes when it comes to their passion. Credible, influential and engaging are some of the terms used for Consumers passionate about a certain issue – (dubbed “Passionistas”) . And it has been found that they create and share more content online about their passions, than typical consumers.

During three months in 2007, online research was conducted by Yahoo, MediaVest and comScore to determine online behavior related to passionate consumers. It revealed several interesting traits and statistics regarding Passionista behavior:

Engaged in Information Seeking :

Passionistas seek relevant and timely information and spend significantly more time engaged in activities related to their passions than the average consumer:

For every one minute that a typical internet user spends online with content associated with a passionista’s passion, Passionistas spend six minutes with that content.
Passionistas search online for information about their passion 184% more than typical users and conduct more than 100 related searches having to do with their passion per year.
Sharing: Passionistas heavily engage with communities of like-minded consumers

They are more likely to create and share content online such as photos, blog posts or videos about their passions.
Influential: Because of their intense engagement around sharing information

Passionistas are 52% more likely than typical users to recommend or influence others about brands aligning with them.
Open: Passionistas are more open than others to brands that share their passions

53% said they would try a brand they had not previously considered if it were associated with their passion, versus 41% of typical users.
High Expectations: Passionistas hold their brands to a high standard

They expect intelligent advertising, new approaches and authenticity.

Wow! We are far more than people passionate about a subject. We are a force to be reckoned with!

Long live Passionistas everywhere, and may their knowledge and influence continue to shape and improve their passions and the world around them.

It’s the Cartier Tortue XL, yellow gold, Jaguar motif – and it’s so newly released, it doesn’t even have a price yet.

The French luxury jeweler and watch designer has been producing watches for more than 160 years, but they have launched a heart-stopping winner with this one. The Jaguar is the sixth animal motif watch in their Cartier Art collection. As described by Cartier:

“High relief engraving and enamel convey the raw power of this wild Jaguar with the shades of gold, black and fawn highlighting it’s features, especially its staring hypnotically realistic eyes.”
